I fought the law
You’ll get a kick out of this classic jurisfiction song: I Fought the Law.
It was written in 1958 by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets – the Bobby Fuller Four made it famous in 1966. Here’s the Youtube link. Go on, get up and dance!
The Clash also recorded the song in 1979. But it was the Bobby Fuller Four version that made it to No. 175 on the Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
A shocking follow-up to this story is that six months after I Fought the Law became a Top 10 hit, Fuller was found dead from asphyxiation in his mother’s car. The Los Angeles Police Department declared his death to be a suicide, but controversy surrounding his death was never resolved. Fuller was 23 years old.
